Ok, so evidently Rock Revolution sucks so hard that it killed an entry from the DNAbot =P
I'm not going to say that Rock Revolution is a horrible game... if Guitar Hero and Rock Band didn't exist... but they do, so it is. For those of you not in the know Konami (makers of Rock Revolution) are the actual innovators here, they had the rhythm market cornered in the arcade with every conceivable periphrial, no they didn't just do DDR; there's Guitar Freaks, Beatmania, DDR, drum games and vocal games as well, to the point where Red Octane had to pay them to bring the original Guitar Hero out (which lead to a lawsuit by Konami against Harmonix because they did not).
Songs are OK, graphics are meh... sure they went the realistic route... but they look so plasticky. Challenges are... interesting I suppose with mixes like having two runs at a section of a song and then having to play it with no notes displayed on screen, or studio challenges where you have to play a section of a song flawlessly. The overly annoying challenge is the poisoned notes one... anyone who's played DDR should recognize this as it throws you notes (directions in DDR's case) that you cannot hit, but after the past 7 years (going back to Amplitude and Frequency) I've come to the point of not trying to process whats on the screen and just hit whatever comes at me, so having a rough time with this... also, stupidly some of the stuff you've learned to do on GH and RB you can't do in this mode, like if the poisoned note is green and the true note is yellow, you cannot still have the green pressed down, so during a fast section when I'd normally anchor the green and hit the yellow, it tries to treat it like a chord so you lose a bit of health (you can hit 6 in total before you fail), oh and did I mention you have to do this while obtaining a high enough score in a song?
I'm going to give this a few more days of playing and then expect a rundown of the 3 guitar/band games released this year.
